Caroline is a licensed Massage Therapist, and a registered member of the United States Association for Body Psychotherapists and the Voice and Speech Teachers Association. She has completed many programs with, and is a Teaching Assistant for, the Upledger Institute for Craniosacral Therapy. (The most comprehensive and intensive CranioSacral Therapy training venue in the world, the Upledger Institute was founded by Dr. Upledger who is accredited with the groundbreaking discovery of the Dural Pulse and the creation of the term "CranioSacral Therapy.") Caroline is also a graduate of The Massage Therapy Institute of Davis, CA, and is influenced by the work of Dick Schwartz and his model of Internal Family Systems. Her voice and performance coaching work is also informed by The Linklater work, The Alexander Technique, and other voice/body modalities.
Caroline specializes in working with...
Artists and vocalists, writers, spinal injuries, digestive disorders, migraines, women's health concerns, those working with unique nutritional needs, yoga practitioners, dancers, athletes, survivors of trauma and those with PTSD, those working with difficult personal, relational and/or work-related transitions, GLBT issues, and those living with chronic emotional or physical discomfort.
More about Craniosacral Therapy and its counterpart, SomatoEmotional Release....
These techniques are safe, gentle & effective hands-on techniques that heal injuries, free the body from chronic physical and/or emotional pain, strengthen the immune system and restore natural balance to the Central Nervous System. Craniosacral Therapy addresses the bones, fluids, membranes and tissues of the cranial and spinal systems; through a series of relaxing techniques and movements the body's deepest core layer is realigned, effectively shifting stubborn imbalances and releasing stuck energy. SomatoEmotional Release work harnesses the wonderful hands-on techniques of CranioSacral Therapy, and adds in the possibility of working with therapeutic dialogue, imagery and guided meditations.

**PLEASE NOTE: If you are coming for CranioSacral Therapy and have never received bodywork before, and/or you don't already maintain an embodied practice (yoga, dance, athletics, physical therapy, etc.) it is recommended that you attend at least two yoga classes with Caroline before scheduling your first session. Email Caroline with any questions about this.
Policies and How To Prepare For Your Session
--If
you are "coming down with something," are showing any signs of a
bacterial or viral upper respiratory infection, feel any flu-like
symptoms, or have any contagious skin rashes, please stay home and
rest! Bodywork and/or vigorous exercise are not indicated during the beginning or
acute stages of an infection as they may overwhelm the body's natural immune response.
--Cancellation policy requires 24 hrs notice, otherwise 100% of fee is
due. True emergencies or infection symptoms are the exception. To cancel, please email ch@carolineharvey.com or text 510-919-3367. Also, it's more than a financial issue; working with me is a partnership. Multiple and repeated missed appointments and/or chronic lateness usually means it's time to re-think our work together.
--All first sessions are 60-90 minutes. We may not use the whole 90 minutes, but please plan for the full time so we have it if we need it. After your first session, you have the option to schedule 60 or 90 minute appointments.
--Plan to arrive no more than 10 minutes before your session begins, but no later than before your scheduled start time. No matter when you arrive, we will have to finish at the scheduled end time. Thank you for your consideration around this.
--Payment is due at time of service. Cash or check only. If you are paying by check, please make it out beforehand to Caroline Harvey.

--Be well hydrated! i.e., start drinking water the day before your session!
--Arrive bathed and free from perfumes, scented oils and/or lotions.
--"Should I tip?" Gratuities are not at all expected or required. Sessions with me fall somewhere in a grey zone between therapy sessions, for which we never tip, and massage or private fitness, for which we often tip. I understand that sometimes adding a gratuity can feel like an important exchange and show of appreciation. If we have a little extra money that week, sharing our abundance can be a lovely way to express genuine gratitude or respect. So if you are inclined to tip, it will be received with grace and thanks. But know that even if you tip once, you not expected to do it again, and I hope you only tip when you have the extra money to share, or when it feels like an important gesture for you. You may also consider any gratuities as funds that help support my ability to provide free and discounted services to our community, and in particular you help to support my Anjali Appointment Program, described below, which helps those without sufficient funds get the bodywork care that they need.

Anjali Appointments
Anjali is the sanskrit word for “divine offering.” I’ll be providing a limited number of pay-what-you-can/free appointments for those in severe emotional or physical crisis who do not have adequate funds for self-care. If you or someone you love needs attending to in this way, please don't hesitate to contact me for an Anjali Appointment. Don't wait to get help-- support is here. (Important note: I am not a replacement for other medical or psychiatric care. If I am not the practitioner you need, ask me about my Referral List.) Each Anjali recipient is offered one appointment per month, with a total of three per year.
