Part One: Lecture and Discussion
(3 hours)

The morning portion of Awakening the Yogini will give insight into different aspects of the female body and life, drawing from expert sources in many schools of yoga, bodywork, medical science & folk traditions, as well as Caroline's own dynamic path of professional work and personal healing. Topics to be covered may include:

We’ll discuss together what "healthy" really is, address concerns about urinary health, organ stability, sexual pleasure, pre- and post-natal health, and menstrual health questions about irregularity and endometriosis. We’ll talk through the yogic prescriptions that can help restore equilibrium and prevent new injury or discomfort, and you’ll get tools for continuing to build your yoga practice for life…on and off the mat.  There will be space for your questions, emotional support and voluminous belly laughter!

The Lecture portion of Awakening the Yogini is designed as a great lead-in to the afternoon Yoga Practice, but it may also be attended on its own.  Bring a notebook, your yoga mat, maybe a light snack and/or water, and wear comfortable yoga clothes. Your fee for the Lecture includes your Awakening the Yogini written materials and manual.

Part Two: Yoga Practice
(2.5 hours)

Women in all stages of life and practitioners at all levels of yoga experience are encouraged and invited to participate in this women only yoga class. Caroline will guide you through an inspiring yoga flow that will draw from Forrest, Yin and Restorative techniques, as well as Caroline’s own work in Deep Flow Yoga.

Discover how conscious core connection can awaken an imbalanced or painful pelvis, how deep breathing can help clear tension and trauma from your body, and how a connection to your natural rhythms of breath, blood, emotion and energy can empower you to stand strong in your feminine nature, desire and life purpose. Expect to experience your physical, emotional and energetic anatomy in a whole new way, a way that will leave you feeling energized, refreshed and deeply connected. The practice space will be safe, comfortable and accepting.

The Yoga Practice portion of Awakening the Yogini is designed as a follow-up to the morning lecture, but can also be taken on it’s own.  Bring water, your yoga mat, and any special props you need for practice. It is suggested that you come on an empty or only lightly-full stomach.

The CranioYoga Work: the artful synthesis of Restorative Yin Yoga & CranioSacral Therapy

The CranioYoga Work-- designed as the intelligent counterpart to sweaty, strong Vinyasa Yoga and deep muscular/structural bodywork and massage-- deals directly with the soft membranes, bones, ligaments & tendons of the physical body, and it addresses, heals and demystifies the Central Nervous System & the Subtle Energetic Body.  Think of it as an incredibly efficient way to catch up on all that sleep you've missed over the years!

This workshop will include some lecture & discussion followed by a practice of luscious restorative sequences, deep yin yoga stretches and therapeutic hands-on assists. Get the real deal about how yoga and bodywork actually help heal Central Nervous System imbalances like chronic pain, fatigue, long-held stress & injury, anxiety and disconnection.  It's also indicated for anyone working with: migraines, chronic bone or muscular imbalance, irregular menstrual cycles, PTSD, depression, visual disturbance, ADD and ADHD, and more.

Topics to be covered:
--Understand the basics of the CranioSacral Therapy System and the Theory of Yin Yoga
--Experience and clarify concepts of "energy," the Chakra system and Kundalini
--Feel the difference between the "muscle body" and the "bone body"
--Get a sense of your CranioSacral Rhythm, or Pulse
--Dive into tangible tools for re-booting the body's natural healing mechanisms, like "still point" and "dural unwinds"
--Leave with a solid sense of how to take this practice into your other classes, and how to continue exploring on your own

Yoga practitioners and bodyworkers at all levels of experience are invited to attend.  We wholeheartedly welcome those with acute injuries, those in pain, those feeling like they "can't do yoga," and those who are pregnant or in the post-partum stage.

Winter Solstice Yoga and Fire Ceremony
TBA, Winter 2010 at Samara Yoga in Davis Square

On the darkest day of the year when the Sun is farthest from the earth, we come together in a light-filled festival of Yoga, Movement and Fire. Drawing from age-old traditions of honoring the sacred dark of mid-winter, this workshop includes a creative, all-levels yoga practice followed by a ritual of flame and ceremonial smoke.

The yoga practice and the ceremony will address themes of darkness & illumination, the natural cycles of creation & destruction, and also real-life issues like “burn-out,” seasonal depression and fatigue. We’ll discern for ourselves what we are ready to let go of and what we are ready to bring “into the light,” igniting new intentions and calling on the Sun to begin its yearly journey back toward us.

As Marrianne Williamson writes, "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.  Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.  It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us."
